Team Returns from Successful Trip to Boca Juniors Academy

The SYC Boca (previously LMVSC Patriots) have returned from two succesful weeks of training at the Boca Juniors Youth Academy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The trip took place from June 19 through July 3, and included daily training under the tutelage of Academy instructors led by Gaston Maddoni and Manuel Maddoni. During an intensive two week schedule, SYC Boca trained twice daily with Academy instructors, and engaged in a series of full sided scrimmages as well as futsal matches.

During the trip, the team was able to take in a Boca Juniors game in Buenos Aires, was invited to watch a training session of the professional club, and had the opportunity to meet several professional players. The immersion into South American soccer was inspiring and exciting for all of the players. The ability to observe the quality of the South American academy system was an eye opener for coaches and players alike. The average Argentine academy player trains for 15+ hours per week in structured practice sessions. Organized coaching and development starts as young as age 5, and the quality of play is simply outstanding.

SYC Boca has developed an ongoing relationship with the Maddoni family and the Boca Juniors Academy, and expects to foster this relationship for the future benefit of the team and its players. Later this summer, Gaston Maddoni is travelling to Virginia with another Boca Academy coach to participate in training camps run by SYC Boca Coach Nick Arzani. For more information on these camps, see Coach Nick's website at www.arzanisoccer.com.
